SPECIAL ADVENT PROGRAM
This year Advent began on November 30th with the lighting of the first candle on the Advent Wreath. As has been the custom of the church throughout the centuries, there are four candles on the wreath, each representing one of the four Sundays in Advent.
As Lutherans we note that Advent is a special time of preparation for Christmas, much as Lent is a time of preparation for Easter. In fact, in ancient times one would often fast during this period. Most don't do that today but it is still a great time to reflect on what Christmas is really about: preparing for God's entering our world and lives.
Perhaps as Christians we should be thinking of how we will prepare to receive him and allow him to be born anew in each of our lives, considering how different the world is right now. Too often we concentrate on buying "things" rather than renewing our lives. Maybe this year you'll try something different.
GREENING THE CHURCH
On Saturday, December 13, we'll be "greening" or decorating the sanctuary for Christmas. We'll need some help so why not plan on coming out to join us, and stay for some home cooking afterward. Wear something comfortable!

All are invited to the Christmas Eve Candlelight Eucharist. Why not invite a friend or family member to join you as we celebrate Christmas by candlelight? The service will begin at 7:30 pm and all our choirs will participate.
